National CITES Workshop, Dominican Republic

2007

In cooperation with the CITES Management Authority, HSI held a two-day national workshop on capacity building for the implementation of CITES. The goals of the workshop were to foster collaboration between the diverse actors involved in CITES implementation in the Dominican Republic, review CITES as a convention and relate it to the actual situation in the Dominican Republic, and identify possible solutions to improve CITES implementation in the country.

Over 40 people attended HSI's CITES Workshop in the Dominican Republic

More than 40 participants attended from relevant government agencies, including representatives from the departments of trade and environment, industry and trade, agriculture, and customs, as well as armed forces, environmental law enforcement, public prosecutors, and the sub-secretariat of marine and coastal resources.  Scientific and legal experts, and representatives from local non-governmental organizations, the National Zoo and the National Botanical Garden, also participated.
