Wildlife law enforcement collaboration with India

2007 - 2008

In the UK, there are a series of Sustainable Development Dialogues running including one with India.  The dialogues are aimed at mutual learning on how to incorporate sustainable development values into government policy.

As part of a wider Dialogue with India, the UK has developed a workplan with India to strengthen and improve wildlife law enforcement in both countries.  The Governments of India and the UK along with support from TRAFFIC International and other bodies are developing the workplan which includes the development of a training programme for wildlife law enforcers and exchange visits between the UK and India.  Plans are also being made to strengthen enforcement by raising awareness amongst the general public through appropriately targeted publicity programmes. The plan also aims to develop structures for exchanging and sharing intelligence.
